STRATEGIES FOR PROMOTING INCLUSIVE LEARNING THROUGH VIRTUAL CLASSROOMS

The COVID - 19 pandemic have made a major impact in various fields which includes the educational field as well. Due to the preventive measures posed by the government to prevent the virus, the educational institutions had to find an alternative means of teaching. This resulted in schools switching to virtual classrooms. Although many educators were not used to teaching virtually, they had to adapt to the challenging time. The main challenges were the lack of experience for the teachers teaching virtually, insufficient support for them from the school management, lack of proper network access for all and parents failing to provide the necessary facilities required such as mobiles, laptops, network access etc.

What is inclusive education? An inclusive education is a model of teaching where all type of students learn together in one environment, getting fair and equal opportunities. In an inclusive education environment, no particular student will be discriminated against on the basis of gender, caste, religion, etc. This is the basic idea of inclusive education.

An inclusive virtual classroom is not a very easy task. Not every student will feel comfortable in speaking. They may even be shy to speak out. It is the responsibility of the teacher to make the students feel free. There are some strategies by which inclusive education can be promoted in virtual classrooms.

* Get to know who is in your class. Start the class with a self introduction and get to know them too. This helps to build a great bond with the students.

* Organise more group activities which helps to create unity within the classroom. Ask them to create a project together, students learn collaborative learning.

* Encourage students to open up in the class by organising some debate sessions and making them involved in discussions.

* Moreover encourage students with some rewards. This motivates the child sometimes. Students can be given freedom in virtual classrooms to perform in which they are very good at.

* Teachers can find a way to talk privately with those facing difficulty in studies. Try to know their problems or issues, motivate and encourage them.

Promoting an inclusive education is very essential for the success of the students because a virtual classroom is a secured platform for all students to learn regardless of their differences such as abilities, skills, etc. With proper usage of tools and technology, all students can be helped. Teachers can promote inclusive education in virtual classrooms by creating a safe and encouraging environment. We must keep in mind that every student deserves proper education and equal opportunities and we must remember that future of India is in our hands.
